Staff in San Jose strikes over equal pay for women

About 2,000 municipal employees went on strike here to achieve equal pay for women doing work comparative to what men do. "The issue is not equal pay for women, but equal pay for work of comparable value," said an official of the striking union, the American Federation of State , County and Municipal Employees.

Other union officials said the strike could serve as a US test case.
