US air traffic controllers wave off tentative pact

Although results are unofficial, air traffic controllers have overwhelmingly rejected a tentative pact with the government, setting the stage for more negotiations -- and another possible strike threat.

The union's 15,000 members are completing voting on a tentative agreement reached by negotiators just before dawn on June 22, only hours from a union strike deadline that could have crippled air travel. Union officials, predicting a rejection margin of 90 percent, said final vote counts at several dozen locals showed no support fo r the contract.
