Poor New Jersey! Nestled between New York and Philadelphia, it has no commercial VHF television station of its own.It lacks "an electronic sense of stateness," says Rep. James J. Florio.

Democrat Florio (who also happens to be running for governor of New Jersey) is pushing legislation that would have the Federal Communications Commission assign the next available TV license to his state.

"A part of southern New Jersey is an electronic extension of Pennsylvania, and a portion of northern New Jersey is an electronic extension of New York," he laments. "A television station in New Jersey will help our citizens mentally define their borders, their unique and particular interests, their problems, and their solutions."
