Aunt Edith

You were the first snow on the winter scene. You were the legendary flash of green that once seen, makes all other dawns and sunsets somehow diminished. Yours were the eyes that saw everything with freshness and wonder -- like the traveler in a new world who viewed kangaroos as "giant leaping men" Seen through your eyes, the flying squirrel became the griffon child of the lion and the eagle and the white dove became the fabled roc that could "truss elephants in its talons" Like Queen Anne playing childhood games in palace halls with ladies of her court, your yesterdays ribboned through the fabric of your days. You knew, you knew, that as a child I saw myself in you, and loved the child in you that always, in my play, met me halfway.
