Foreign firms ease US stakes

Foreign companies announced 172 manufacturing investments in the United States during the first six months of 1981, the lowest figures for any six-month period since 1977, the Conference Board reported recently in its latest foreign investment survey.

The reduced level of foreign manufacturing investment in the US continues a downward trend. Last year, such investments totaled 387 down sharply from 437 in 1979.
