Resistance leader pledges unified push in Cambodia

Khmer Rouge leader Khieu Samphan pledged Wednesday at a meeting with two other Cambodian guerrilla factions to work for a national union of all Cambodian resistance groups to help intensify their struggle against Vietnamese forces in their homeland. He said the union would be based on a "minimum political program" allowing each group to maintain its identity and freedom.

Meanwhile in Manila, senior foreign ministry officials of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations were campaigning for the third year to keep Cambodia's UN seat in the hands of the Khmer Rouge and away from the Vietnamese-backed Heng Samrin administration in Phnom Penh.
