An Irish Republican Army inmate joined six other hunger strikers at Maze Prison in a fast for political prisoner status, which has claimed the lives of 10 hunger strikers in six months. Gerard Hodgins joined apparently to bolster the strike which was eroded earlier this month after relatives authorized the withdrawal of two hunger strikers. So far, five inmates have dropped out of the fasts.
