We need no barbed wire

We need no barbed wire. Where the pasture lips the ditch moist earth yields a fence, scrub-brush and willowly bark. In broad dark tones they strike a somber vertical to subdue us against a sky that stretches wide. Our days are deepened with such borders fixed and sure.
