Senate panel retains funds for B-1 bomber

The Senate Appropriations Committee voted Tuesday to keep $2.1 billion for the B-1 manned bomber program in President Reagan's defense budget. The committee rejected, 21 to 7, a proposal to delete the funds for the new bomber. The committee is working on a $208.4 billion defense budget proposed by its defense appropriations subcommittee -- $7.5 billion more than President Reagan's request.
