Reagan, AFL-CIO brass to sit down for talks

President Reagan will meet with the AFL-CIO leadership at the White House Tuesday, hoping to bridge the gap in communications - if not in economic policies - between them.

Positions on both sides are so polarized that conciliation may be difficult, Monitor labor correspondent Ed Townsend reports. But improved relations are possible, say several members of the federation's Executive Council who will attend the meeting, if the White House agrees to reemploy some of the 11,500 air traffic controllers who struck illegally earlier this year.
