Danes trying to attract offshore oil operations

Hoping to cut its oil imports, Denmark is luring international oil and gas companies to explore and exploit its offshore resources. The Danish government has drafted new laws providing for taxation 5 to 10 percent lower than its North Sea neighbors, Britain and Norway, which are also encouraging offshore exploration.

If approved by parliament, the new legislation would take effect Jan. 1.
