Airlines meeting to cut losses on North Atlantic

For the first time since 1978, American and European airlines are meeting in Geneva to cut their losses on the North Atlantic route, possibly by raising 1982 fares up to 15 percent.

Because of a price war, the airlines will collectively lose some $650 million this year on the route, sources say. On any given day, 125 fares are available on the route.
