South African Army says Namibia rebel HQ blitzed

The South African Army says it wiped out the central military headquarters of the South-West Africa People's Organization in a fresh attack deep inside Angola. SWAPO is a black guerrilla group fighting South African rule in Namibia (South-West Africa).

The November raid on black nationalist guerrillas was believed to be South Africa's deepest penetration across the border with Namibia since the Angolan civil war in 1975.

The South African Defense Force said it used paratroopers and jet fighters to demolish the headquarters of the Angola-based SWAPO guerrillas, who have been fighting a bush war against South African rule in Namibia for 15 years.
