Cost of Alaskan gas line to be shared by US users

US consumers now share the financial risk of a proposed $40 billion pipeline to bring Alaskan natural gas to the lower 48 states. The House Wednesday approved the legislation, which was strongly opposed by consumer groups.

The waiver package is designed to expedite construction of the pipeline, partly by allowing consumers to be billed in advance for its costs.
