Denmark hunting new premier

Danish Prime Minister Anker Joergensen's Social Democratic minority government resigned Wednesday after his party took major losses in Tuesday's election.

Queen Margrethe and Mr. Joergensen start negotiations this morning (Dec. 10) with all nine party leaders on forming a new government.

Mr. Joergensen will continue as caretaker prime minister.

Mr. Joergensen warned that Denmark may face political chaos resulting from his party's losses in the election.

The main victors of the election were small parties to the left and center, not to the right, as most opinion polls had anticipated. But there was no clear mandate on how to go about solving the country's chronic economic and unemployment problems.
