Saudis rally moderates against Iranian 'terrorism'

Saudi Arabia has accuseed Iran of becoming the terrorist of the Persian Gulf and is offering other moderate Arab states internal-security aid. A government official said the kingdom supports Iraq against Iran in the Persian Gulf war, reflecting mounting antagonism between the pro-Western Saudis and the Islamic fundamentalist regime in Iran.

The Saudis signed a security cooperation accord with Bahrain.

The pact came a week after Bahraini authorities say they thwarted a coup attempt which they claim was backed by Iran.

Iran has denied the charge.

The official said the kingdom was prepared to send security forces to any of its five partners in the Gulf Cooperation Council - Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman - if needed.
