When father comes

Jaws of clouds close, and grow thin on the purple face of winter. Ice trees bow in the deepening before wide-eyed children waiting in the house, by the fires, near the freezing glass: each warm breath creating windows within windows; eyes glued beyond the banks, ears listening for crunching snow. Cracking doors fling heart against heart, opening arms when father comes.
