Housing bias law defeated by Texas voters

Austin voters this weekend soundly defeated a proposed law that would have legalized housing discrimination against homosexuals.

Opponents of the measure had argued passage of the ordinance would have opened the door to discrimination against other minority groups and campaigned heavily in black and Mexican-American neighborhoods. They argued it was a human rights issue.
