Koivis to takes over Finnish presidency

Prime Minister Mauno Koivisto, a moderate Social Democrat economist, became Finland's first Socialist president Tuesday. An electoral council elected him to succeed Urho Kekkonen, who held the nation's highest office for 25 years.

Government sources said Mr. Koivisto would use Finland's secure base of neutrality to expand its political and economic influence.
