Curbs on unions proposed as British strike goes on

Public anger at a series of strikes now wreaking havoc in Britain's railway system has helped create a favorable climate for a tough new campaign that would curb what Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher calls the excessive power of trade unions, Monitor contributor Alexander MacLeod reports.

The Employment Bill was unveiled in the House of Commons on a day when hundreds of thousands of train commuters took to the roads or stayed home because of the third successive 48-hour strike by engine drivers.
