Late-hour rescue attempt for Laker line turned back

A plan by a Canadian bank to bail out bankrupt Laker Airways collapsed and the British government again refused to come to the airline's rescue.

The Orion Royal Bank said its proposed $66 million package to save Laker had fallen through because it could not reconcile the interests of all its creditors.
