Viet military plane crashes in Thailand

A Vietnamese military plane carrying 13 people crashed in Thailand Feb. 11 after it was intercepted by Thai fighters near the sensitive border with Kampuchea (Cambodia).

Thai authorities discounted speculation in some diplomatic circles that the Soviet-made Antonov 26 plane had been hijacked in a bid for asylum in Thailand.

Authorities said there was no evidence the plane had been hit by bullets or rockets. It was believed to have strayed across the border west of the Kampuchean town of Pailin while on a reconnaisance mission over territory held by Khmer Rouge guerrillas in western Kampuchea. One Vietnamese was reported to have been killed.
