Claude Charron, who was a close aide to Premier Rene Levesque, pleaded guilty to shoplifting and was fined $300, one day after he stunned the province by resigning as the parliamentary leader of the ruling Parti Quebecois.
Mr. Charron announced his resignation from the Cabinet because of the shoplifting charge. He was accused of taking a $120 jacket from a department store.
