US is letting Iraq buy civilian transport planes

The Reagan administration decided to permit Iraq to buy six to 12 Lockheed L- 100 transport planes for civilian use, congressional sources said. The decision follows the administration's February action to remove Iraq from a list of countries the United States says support international terrorism. Efforts could be made to halt the planned sale, perhaps by attaching an amendment to a State Department or foreign aid bill before Congress.
