Mitterrand insists Japan cut surplus with West

French President Francois Mitterrand, in two hours of talks with Prime Minister Zenko Suzuki, insisted that Japan move to cut its soaring trade surplus with the West before the June summit meeting of seven leading industrial nations , according to a spokesman. Mr. Mitterrand called for a mutual lowering of trade barriers and a bigger Japanese effort to improve trade in electronic goods, energy, and space technology.
