Turk killed in Portugal; Armenian group answers

A Turkish diplomat, Erkut Akbay, was shot and killed and his wife seriously wounded near Lisbon. A group calling itself Justice Commandos Against Armenian Genocide claimed responsibility.

Armenian groups have claimed responsibility for the shooting in recent years of a number of Turkish diplomats throughout the world. A Turkish diplomat in Los Angeles and another in Boston have been killed recently.

The Armenian groups say the killings were in retaliation for what they describe as the slaughter of 1.5 million Armenians by the former Turkish empire at the start of World War I.
