The world's whales could be the unlikely victims of the Falkland Island flare-up.

That's one of the latest worries of the Friends of the Earth, an environmental group. The organization points out that the chairman of the International Whaling Commission, which has been the focal point of efforts to conserve the world's largest mammals, is an Argentinian, E. Iglesias. And the IWC's up-and-coming meeting is to be held in -- you guessed it -- England.

''One thing is for sure: the whaling nations would like nothing better than to have the IWC thrown into chaos this year, as the possibility of a moratorium on commercial whaling moves closer and closer,'' the environmentalists say.
