Democrats' pep meeting visited by a Republican

Good ol' party rivalry in Philadelphia: Republican national chairman Richard Richards intruded into the Democrats' party conference Thursday. He was breaking the unwritten rule that leaders of one party don't show up to grab the spotlight at the other's political meetings, and Democratic chairman Charles Manatt called it a tacky move. Mr. Richards said the Democrats came to criticize the President and Republican programs but had no new ideas of their own.
