Airlines raising fares again on Europe, Atlantic runs

The world's major airlines agreed at an emergency meeting Tuesday to raise air fares on most transatlantic and European routes by 7 percent in a second 1982 increase.

Officials of 60 airlines, including 20 chief executives, also agreed at an emergency meeting of the International Air Transport Association here to appeal to governments for help in reducing discount ticket sales, which the association said are costing airlines $1 billion a year in lost revenues. The 5 percent increase, possibly effective Oct. 1, will apply both to passenger fares and freight rates, an association spokesman said.
