Peru says it's interested in buying F-16 fighters

Peru told the Reagan administration it is interested in buying 26 F-16 fighter planes, a move that could signal a desire to end arms reliance on the Soviets, defense officials said.

The request for specially developed export versions of the General Dynamics combat plane (less sophisticated than those used by the US Air Force) is all but certain to be approved by the administration, the officials said. The sale would amount to at least $15 million.
