France was a bit slow in giving the vote to women (1944), but it is out ahead with a new rule for local elections. Members of Parliament voted almost unanimously for a requirement that no more than 75 percent of the candidates on each voting list can be of the same sex.

This means in effect that no less than 25 percent would be women.
