Philippine President is quest at White House

President Reagan warmly welcomed Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos at the White House Thursday, saying the ties between their two countries remain strong.

President Marcos has been criticized for ruling under self-proclaimed martial law for 10 years. The human rights issue was not brought up in talks Thursday between the two Presidents, but a senior State Department official indicated the issue would be brought up later when Mr. Marcos visited the department. Messrs. Reagan and Marcos affirmed the value of mutual security, and the US agreed to supply a financial guarantee for a Philippine nuclear facility.
