Beautiful colors come to the Berkshire Mountains in western Massachusetts in late September and early October, after Tanglewood and the summer theaters close their doors and the summer visitors from the city return home. Autumn is synonymous with harvest time, and one of the oldest harvest festivals in the area, going on since 1934, is the Harvest Festival at the Berkshire Garden Center in Stockbridge. This year the festival will be held on Oct. 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

All kinds of fruits of the harvest will be available - apples, pumpkins, cider, homemade jams and jellies, fudge and candies, cheese, and baked goods. There is entertainment all day long, and used books, dried flower arrangments, old linens, and many other things to browse through. There are wonderful foods to eat while you walk around the grounds - homemade soups from the Red Lion Inn, special Vietnamese foods, and traditional American fare.

The Harvest Festival is at the Berkshire Garden Center, located at the intersection of routes 183 and 102 in Stockbridge, Mass., about one mile from the center of town.
