Reagan pushes Congress on balanced-budget issue

President Reagan Thursday arranged to go to Capitol Hill for a final pre-election push for a constitutional amendment to require a balanced budget. House Democratic leader Jim Wright of Texas said the Rules Committee would consider the amendment and that the issue might reach the House floor before the congressional recess, scheduled for today (Oct. 1).

In addition, White House aides were consulting House Republican leaders on the possibility of Mr. Reagan asking Congress to remain in session an extra week to act on the balanced-budget measure, one of his legislative priorities.
