The giant Gulf Oil Corporation petrochemical plant shut down because of an extortion attempt involving bombs began a phased return to normal operations Tuesday.
A Gulf spokesman said it had cost the company $1.5 million to shut down production and it would cost a similar amount to start it up again. He estimated lost sales revenues at $300,000 a day.
