Lebanese secure Beirut; Israel details its position

Lebanese troops continued their west Beirut cleanup operation Wednesday, finding tons of military supplies and arresting 143 people.

Meanwhile, Israel said it is ready to withdraw its forces from Lebanon, simultaneously with a pullback by Syrian troops. But Israel insists that all remaining Palestinian guerrillas leave Lebanon immediately, a government spokesman said, following a meeting between US envoy Morris Draper, Prime Minister Menachem Begin, and Defense Minister Ariel Sharon.
