Chrysler strike on agenda as union breaks off talks

The United Automobile Workers union broke off contract negotiations with Chrysler Corporation Monday and called a meeting to decide whether to stage a strike after the company refused to grant workers an immediate pay increase.

UAW president Douglas Fraser said bargaining had ended temporarily and the union's Chrysler Council would meet Thursday to decide whether to go on strike.
