One kidnap victim killed, 2nd still missing in Ulster

A massive police search Monday for a Protestant, Tom Cochrane, kidnapped by the Irish Republican Army, and a Roman Catholic, Joe Donaghan, abducted in retaliation by Protestant extremists, resulted in the discovery of Mr. Donaghan's body.

Whether or not Cochrane, an Ulster Defense Regiment sergeant, still lives is as yet unknown. The latest violence dealt a further blow to hopes of peace in Northern Ireland, where more than 2,220 people have died in the IRA's 13 -year-old struggle to end British rule.
