Navy begins mail search for drugs and contraband

The US Navy began its new policy of searching military mail. Officials said it would help stem the flow of illegal drugs and contraband to troops stationed overseas.

The policy, which allows searches and seizures of mail deemed suspicious by officials of the Military Postal Service, has been criticized by sailors, who say it is an invasion of privacy.
