'Tis the season to get junk mail,

Fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la. . . .'

If the holiday season means your mailbox is overstuffed with unwanted gift catalogs and advertising flyers, there's a way to dig out from under the pile. On a form available from the Direct Mail Marketing Association, the industry clearinghouse, you can ask for the mail to cease and desist. Or, believe it or not, you can ask for more: The association sends out advertising on everything from books and gardening to hardware and tools.

To get a form, write: Direct Mail Marketing Association, Mail Preference Service, 6 E. 43rd Street, New York, NY 10017m
