Oil-furnace odor worth a call to manufacturer

Q. I have a Cleveland Torridheet oil furnace which, after it starts up, leaves an unpleasant odor outdoors. After the first minute, the smell is normal. I have asked the manufacturer for a service manual but have been told it no longer has them for my model. Local furnace repairmen cannot correct it. What do you say? Morris B. Hughes, Bronson, Mich.

A. I'd go back to the manufacturer and explain the problem, if indeed it is a problem. In the absence of a catalog, ask the company if the outside odor is unusual, and if so, how to get rid of it.

Other than that, I wouldn't know what to do. Can anyone else help Mr. Hughes?
