All but 7 Polish internees are scheduled for release

Polish authorities announced that seven key figures of the banned Solidarity trade union would remain jailed, while all other political internees held under martial law would be freed.

The release was believed to include dozens of union activists and such senior government officials of the previous administration as disgraced Communist leader Edward Gierek and two former prime ministers. It said legal proceedings would continue against the seven union members who will remain confined.
