Nakasone says Japan is firmly allied to US

Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone Monday declared Japan firmly allied to the United States and rebuked criticism of his anti-Soviet policies. Mr. Nakasone, whose visit to Washington last week triggered a flurry of criticism from opposition parties and the Soviet Union, told the opening session of the legislature, ''We will stick to the security system with the United States and try to accomplish qualitative improvement of defense potential necessary to ensure Japan's self-defense.'' The prime minister said Japan may become an outcast in the world if his policies are not maintained. Opposition parties were angered over what they saw as Mr. Nakasone's attempt to embroil Japan in Washington's anti-Soviet strategy.
