A highly placed Zimbabwe official said a government investigation showed more than 2,000 civilians were massacred by North Korean-trained government troops in Matabeleland province. He said the killings occurred during a campaign against dissidents. Meanwhile, opposition leader Joshua Nkomo said he was put under house arrest by police investigating seditious statements and currency smuggling.
