More than 130 retired US generals and admirals appealed to President Reagan to reach an accord with Israel to obtain information about Soviet weaponry and tactics. They said in an open letter that information on the superiority of Israeli-modified US weapons over Soviet arms in the Lebanon war was vital. The US earlier rejected an information-sharing agreement with Israel because of restrictions Israel wanted to impose.
