Donovan backs law calling for union criminals' ouster

Labor Secretary Raymond Donovan urged a Senate subcommittee to pass a labor-management racketeering act that would mandate the immediate ouster of any union official convicted of a crime, Monitor labor correspondent Ed Townsend writes.

In a rare siding with the administration, AFL-CIO president Lane Kirkland supported the legislation. The act is particularly aimed at the Teamsters union, where Roy Williams is still in control even though convicted in an attempted bribery case.
