Mrs. Gandhi visits strife-torn state

India's prime minister arrived in strife-torn Assam to study security and relief measures. This was Indira Gandhi's second visit to the northeastern state that has been the scene of ethnic violence since last month. Militant Assamese leaders, who announced last weekend they were temporarily suspending their anti-immigrant campaign, declared a day of mourning for those killed in the Assam violence. And they urged supporters to boycott Mrs. Gandhi's meetings with officials.
