No Honduran bases used by rebels, minister says

There are no bases in Honduras used by Nicaraguan rebels to attack their country, the Honduran foreign minister said. In an interview with Newsweek International, Edgardo Paz Barnic also said that if such a base did exist it would be dismantled. Nicaragua, meanwhile, repeated its charge that rebels were operating out of Honduras and warned that the possibility of war between Nicaragua and Honduras was increasing. Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Miguel d'Escoto said his government wanted to start talks with Washington to ease tension in the region.

The same day, the presidents of Colombia, Panama, and Costa Rica called for the removal of all foreign military advisers from the region.
