New US group to review USSR A-treaty compliance

President Reagan has created a new group to determine if the Soviet Union has violated treaties on nuclear arms control, the White House said. The move followed the President's speech last month, in which he said he had serious questions about Soviet compliance with treaties. One of the treaties allegedly violated is SALT II, unratified by Congress but supposedly adhered to by both superpowers. The White House also said the group, headed by National Security Adviser William Clark, would also study ways to improve verification measures in any future arms-control agreements with the Soviets.
