First hijacked Chinese jet lands at US base in Korea

A Chinese jetliner was hijacked by three men reported to be Chinese Air Force personnel and landed at a US air base northeast of Seoul. It was the first successful hijacking of a Chinese airliner.

The South Korean Defense Ministry said the plane showed its intention of defecting soon after crossing the demilitarized zone from North Korea and was escorted by South Korean jets. Two crew members of the British-built Trident airliner, carrying 105 people, were shot and wounded, the government announced, adding that it was investigating the motives of the people who commandeered the plane.
